Two Student Assistant Jobs in the Hannah Arendt Edition (Deadline February 16, 2026)

The Hannah Arendt Edition team is looking to hire two student colleagues with an interest in communication and coordination as soon as possible.

The position is advertised for two years. 

Since 2020, Freie Universität Berlin has been working on the Critical Edition of Hannah Arendt's complete works (https://hannah-arendt-edition.net / https://www.arendt-research-center.de). Arendt, one of the most important political and philosophical intellectuals of the 20th century, published primarily in English and German; accordingly, the edition is also multilingual. Parallel to the print version of the edition, a digital platform is being created on which Arendt's works and supplementary material will be made accessible in line with current developments in the field of digital editing.
 

Area of responsibility:

Main tasks:

  •     Supporting the directors and the coordinator of the edition in ongoing research projects (research, literature review)
  •     Literature and image research on research topics related to the edition
  •     Proofreading and editing scientific publications
  •     Supporting the planning, implementation, and communication of scientific events

Additional tasks:

  •     Supporting the transcription activities of the edition

Desired qualifications:

  •     Degree in humanities, social sciences, or cultural studies
  •     Interest in the works of Hannah Arendt
  •     Very good written and spoken German and English skills (minimum C1 in each) and enjoyment of formulating and proofreading texts with attention to detail
  •     Good knowledge of Microsoft Office and image editing
  •     Knowledge of website maintenance and/or CMS systems
  •     Careful, independent working style
